description Written absolutely extensively and profoundly. I haven't got it through yet, as it is designed for direct determination or for study in my opinion. But very informative and factual! Jochen Gartz offers the mushroom lover a good overview of the psychoactive species. It describes the effect and dosage. The first half of the book is devoted to the European psilocybes and their distribution as well as possible confusion. The second half of the book focuses on myths, mushroom cults and the use of mushrooms in other continents. The book has colorful illustrations in the final part, including photos of mushrooms. Gordon Wasson, Albert Hofmann and Roger Heim researched the psychoactive psilocybe species in Mexico in an interdisciplinary collaboration in the 1950s. In addition to ethnobotanical and mycological research, the psychedelics psilocybin and psilocin could be isolated and characterized as effective principles of mushrooms. Over the next few decades, these alkaloids were increasingly found in fungus species of other genera around the world. Jochen Gartz himself researched all aspects of fungi on a scientific basis for more than 15 years. He discovered several "new" species, which he named together with other researchers, such as the strongly psychoactive mushrooms Psilocybe azurescens (USA) and Psilocybe natalensis (South Africa). Aided by his previous work in drug research and his long-term involvement in all areas that are affected by such psychoactive substances, he is here again presenting this interdisciplinary standard work on psychoactive mushrooms, completely revised and updated. Based in each case on historical aspects, this describes competently and yet generally understandable all areas of knowledge in which the species are networked like mycelium. The mycology and chemistry are described in just as much detail, including many color and b / w photos, as are the individual culture processes. Purely toxicological and medical Psychotherapeutic aspects have been linked to a large number of detailed descriptions of the effects of individual mushroom species at different dosages around the world. The risk of confusion with deadly poisonous mushrooms is just as pointed out as the possible use of color reactions to differentiate individual species. The interdisciplinary work is rounded off by an extensive bibliography with several hundred citations from a wide variety of areas. This book is important and shows a wide variety of interesting new information about psychoactive mushrooms. (Albert Hofmann) Additional information 16 p. Color illustration.
